Social Media Internship

The American Public Health Association is seeking an intern with interest and experience in social media to join our fun, hardworking and friendly Conventions team. The Social Media Intern will support the overall goals and plans for marketing, social media promotions and events for APHA’s Annual Meeting and Expo (8,000-10,000 ppl). Some of the specific areas that interns may be assigned to work on are: developing content including language, videos, and images; tracking impressions and reach; creating targeted ads and campaigns; incorporating trending ideas into the social media plan; promoting the overall conference and specific sessions and events; and assisting with other meeting and expo related duties as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The intern will get broad based experience with social media promotions for a large convention and exposition. The intern will broaden their knowledge of online event promotion and have an opportunity to participate in many aspects of the planning and logistics for the Annual Meeting and will provide general support.

All APHA interns also work on the Association’s Get Ready campaign, writing blog posts and working on group projects each semester.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must be a current student (working towards at least a bachelor’s level degree), a recent graduate or working towards a career in social media management. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, attention to detail, proficiency with Excel, databases, Google Docs (documents and spreadsheets); web/internet skills, comfortable with social networking applications, independent and dependable worker, ability to rapidly learn new technology and applications, knowledge of or interest in meeting planning and public health; relentless attention to detail, some graphic design skills would be useful, ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. Summer internships run from June through August. There is a possibility that this internship can be extended through the end of November, if interested. To assure that the intern maximizes her or his experience, we require that students work a minimum of three days a week (at least 20 hours a week) Eastern Time. Start and end times are negotiable.
