APHA works with partners such as the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control to bring national attention to the burden of injury and violence and employs a public health approach for its prevention and control. We recognize policy strategies are key in addressing injury and violence prevention at a population-based level as well.
These activities are a part of the Center for Public Health Practice and Professional Development's work, which brings together several programs to educate, inform and communicate with the public health workforce.
What's New
2023 Injury and Violence Prevention Data Science Demonstration Project
APHA has continued to partner with CDC’s Injury Center to elevate the utility of data science in advancing public health practice. For this iteration of the program, we are seeking responses from organizations with existing data science projects looking to expand their efforts. This may include projects to improve the timeliness of health information, respond to public health threats in a more efficient manner and increase the effectiveness of prevention programs/campaigns.
It is highly recommended that all proposed projects include collaboration with state or local health departments or a relevant local public health entity. Content areas of the proposed work should focus on violence, adverse childhood experiences, suicide and/or drug overdose.

Cannabis Surveillance Learning Collaborative
APHA partnered with NCIPC to convene experts and stakeholders to explore current issues and needs in state-level cannabis surveillance efforts. This report (PDF) highlights findings from the meeting and key considerations as more states begin to legalize non-medical adult cannabis use.
